Bottle Tree / Brachychiton rupestris / Ø30cm / 1.5m tall / “Paul”
The Queensland Bottle Tree (Brachychiton rupestris) is an Australian native recognised for its distinctive trunk and enduring character. Each specimen begins life with a slender, tapering form that gradually develops the iconic bottle shape as it matures. In this early stage—grown in 300 mm diameter pots—the plant’s proportion feels architectural and refined, with fine, elongated leaves that soften the upright silhouette.
Delivered in a black plastic grow pot. For a finished presentation, the tree can be planted into one of our aged concrete or vintage vessels.
Styling
Young Bottle Trees work as sculptural indoor accents or natural focal points in sheltered outdoor spaces. Their minimal form complements midcentury, brutalist, and contemporary interiors. Placed against textured materials such as stone, timber, or limewash, the plant’s trunk and canopy read as calm, vertical sculpture.
Care
Light – Thrives in bright light and tolerates direct sun. Indoors, place near a north- or east-facing window; outdoors, choose a sheltered, bright position.
Water – Allow soil to partially dry between watering. Water thoroughly, then let the top half of the soil dry before watering again. Reduce in cooler months.
Soil & Repotting – Use a free-draining cactus or succulent mix. Repot every 2–3 years or when root-bound. During repotting, the caudex can be gently exposed above the soil for a more sculptural form.
Temperature & Feeding – Prefers 15–30 °C. Protect from frost and cold drafts. Feed lightly in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertiliser.
