Dwarf Umbrella Tree (Heptapleurum arboricola fka Schefflera) in Heavy Vintage Limestone Planter
The silvery grey, gnarled trunk of this Dwarf Umbrella Tree works perfectly with the limestone planter it is planted in. Also limestone planter for under a grand? How do we do it?! (Quick reminder that limestone planters are heavy af, so plan appropriately.)
Height: 0.9m
Pot Diameter: 500mm
Leaf Spread: 1100mm
Native to the subtropical and tropical forests of Taiwan and Hainan, where conditions are warm, humid and consistent.
With plant care, we are trying as best we can to emulate the plant’s natural environment in our homes.
Medium to Bright Indirect Light Indoors. A spot near a bright window is ideal, though it will tolerate lower light for a time. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the glossy leaves.
This tree comes in a heavy limestone pot, so choose its spot before you settle it in. Once planted up it is not easy to move, so take care when lifting and ask for a hand or use a trolley if you need to reposition it. You may also like to place a mat or pad underneath to protect your floor.
The pot has no drainage hole, so water with care. From spring to autumn, when the tree is actively growing, water in small amounts and allow the top 5 cm of soil to dry out before watering again. Pour slowly and stop as soon as the soil is evenly moist, as excess water has nowhere to escape and can lead to root rot. In the cooler months, growth slows, so pull back watering and let the soil dry out a little more between drinks.
Dwarf Umbrella Trees prefer stable conditions. Keep yours away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents, and avoid moving it around too often, as sudden changes can cause leaf drop. Wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust, and rotate the pot every so often for even growth.
