ARCHITECTURAL FORM & HERITAGE

Native to the humid, tropical jungle regions of Northeast India and parts of Southeast Asia, the Rubber Tree is an architectural powerhouse. This vibrant cultivar, the Ficus elastica Lemon N Lime, is highly celebrated for its spectacular dual toned foliage, featuring broad, glossy green leaves beautifully marbled with shades of vivid lime green. While young varieties are known for single stalks, this magnificent mature specimen has been expertly trained over years into a complex, multi stemmed tree structure, showcasing a pale gray bark and robust aerial roots anchoring the base. In its native roots across India, the incredible strength and flexibility of the Ficus elastica trunk and root systems are famously guided by local communities to weave living bridges across river chasms, forming ancient structures that naturally strengthen over centuries.

PLACEMENT & LIGHT

Highly adaptable to bright indoor spaces.

  • Indoors: Position in a room that receives abundant, bright indirect light throughout the day. It loves being near large east or west facing windows. Plenty of bright light is absolutely essential for this specific cultivar to maintain its stunning lime green variegation and prevent the foliage from reverting to solid green.

SEASONAL CARE & WATERING

To cultivate the Ficus elastica is to mimic the rhythms of its tropical forest origins: a distinct cycle of rich monsoon hydration followed by dry warmth. Care should reflect nature; allow the tree to experience a generous watering that thoroughly saturates the root ball, followed by a period where the top seventy percent of the soil dries out completely before watering again.

  • Indoors: Slowly water the entire root ball every 10 14 days from late spring to early autumn, tailoring the frequency to the ambient humidity, airflow, and light levels of your specific space. In winter, dramatically reduce watering to once every 3 4 weeks. Always empty drainage saucers after 30 minutes to prevent root rot in the well draining soil.

  • Note on Botanical Behaviour: The broad, waxy leaves are natural dust catchers. Wipe them down once a month with a soft, damp cloth. This keeps the colorful foliage looking wonderfully vibrant, helps the plant photosynthesize, and maximizes its highly celebrated air purifying qualities.

NOURISHMENT & FERTILIZING

To sustain its dense architectural canopy and encourage healthy leaf development, nourish the tree moderately. Mimicking the natural influx of seasonal nutrients, apply a premium organic liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once every 3 4 weeks during the active spring and summer growth phases. Cease all feeding during the autumn and winter months, allowing the tree to rest.
