Native to the forests of southern Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina, where conditions are warm, humid and rainy through the growing season.

With plant care, we are trying as best we can to emulate the plant’s natural environment in our homes.

Medium to Bright Indirect Light Indoors. A spot near a bright window is ideal, and some gentle morning sun is fine. Avoid harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch the large leaves.

From spring to autumn, when the plant is actively growing, water thoroughly and allow the top 5 cm of soil to dry out before watering again. This mimics the regular rainfall of its native home. In the cooler months, growth slows, so pull back watering and let the soil dry out a little more between drinks. The pot has a drainage hole, and it sits slightly above the stand, so you can place a saucer underneath to catch excess water. Empty the saucer after watering so the roots never sit in water.

The aerial roots are a natural feature of this plant, so please don’t cut them off. You can gently tuck them back into the soil if you like. Older leaves will eventually yellow and drop as the trunks grow taller, which is perfectly normal.

This plant likes humidity, so keep it away from air conditioning vents and cold drafts. Wipe the leaves now and then to remove dust, and rotate the pot every so often for even growth.
